ABSTRACT

I t is well established tha t local release o f CGRP and tachykinins from periphera l term inals o f afferent nerve fibres occurs in response to capsaicin o r electrical nerve stim ulation and contributes to the develop­ m en t o f neurogenic in flam m ation in the airways. The aim o f the present study was to analyse the m echanism o f CGRP release in v itro from capsaicin-sensitive afferent nerve endings in response to electrical or chem ical s tim u la tio n in the presence o r absence o f various ion channel blockers.
