ABSTRACT

HIV lags behind cardiovascular disease and cancer in morbidity and mortality in the western countries, but has been a major cause of tragedy for the working youth of the developing countries. Since the initial descriptions of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV-1) infection, varieties of neurological manifestations have been reported.1 In fact, neurological problems are one of the major factors in the morbidity and mortality of the HIV. The neurological manifestations may be associated with early and late stages of HIV infection. In this chapter neurological manifestations of HIV are discussed with special reference to the tropical region.
