ABSTRACT

Stroke is the most common neurological emergency and is the third leading cause of death next to ischemic heart disease and malignancy. Stroke is common in both tropical and temperate zones. There are, however, differences in the prevalence, age distribution, clinical types and natural history of stroke in tropical and temperate areas. Stroke in young and puerperal venous sinus thrombosis are seen more commonly in tropical countries with some distinct features. In this chapter, the distinct features of stroke in the tropics will be highlighted.
