ABSTRACT
Abstract Living organism is an open nonequillibrium thermodynamic system posesseing many proper ties which permit to evade “heat death” . The analysis o f these properties permits one to imagine the general function of asymmetry in the regulation o f energy homeostasis and, in particular, a entropy production level in the organism. Here I suggest a hypothesis about the role of autonomic nervous system laterality in specific functions o f the left and right hemi spheres, as well as in regulation of brain energy homeostasis. Investigations of brain asymme tries, which are associated with sex and handedness, are considered as confirmations of the proposed hypothesis.
