ABSTRACT

Molecular imprinting was first attempted between the 1930s-50s on silica surfaces, but later studies were carried out mainly on organic polymers. However, with advances in technology for the inorganic synthesis of siliceous materials, molecular imprinting on silica has, since the late of 1980s, again become a focus of attention and is now applied to sensor, adsorbent and catalyst preparation. This is a short review on the history and recent topics of molecular imprinting on silica and related materials.
