ABSTRACT
In addition to Fitz and Amyand, numerous others performed appendectomies and contributed to the treatment of appendicitis before Charles Me-Burney’s time (e.g., Parker, Hancock, Tait, Morton). However, it was Charles McBurney who ulti mately revolutionized the way appendicitis was managed and thus it is his name that is so often used in association with this condition.
