INTRODUCTION

Major burns are relatively common injuries that require multidisciplinary treat ment for patient survival and recovery. Statistics indicate that one million people are burned every year in the United States. Of these, 60,000-80,000 require admis sion to a specialized burn center with 5,000 associated deaths each year. Many of these deaths are due to “sepsis” and multiple organ failure.
