ABSTRACT

Hematopoiesis is the process by which all the different cell lineages that form the blood and immune system are generated from hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) within the bone marrow. The bone marrow (BM) is delimited by the bone surface and occupies the medullary cavities of bones throughout the skeleton and contains a dense network of medullary vascular sinuses, and blood cells and their precursors are packed in the extravascular spaces between the sinuses (Nagasawa 2006).
