ABSTRACT
This chapter examines female genital mutilation (FGM) from the perspective of a human rights abuse and in the context of a child abuse and, therefore, a child protection issue. The chapter also highlights some of the dilemmas facing professionals working to protect girls, which may impact on their ability to carry out their duties effectively.
