ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Dan and I have described and demonstrated an example of two clinical encounters that I believe demonstrate the social practice of healing. Although we concentrated on learning methods in Part I and Part II, methodology alone does not help explain the more interesting questions of ‘What is healing?’, ‘Who needs healing, anyway?’, ‘Why do we need healing now?’, and ‘Are today’s doctors still healers?’ These more interesting questions can be explored using the theory outlined in Chapter 13. In this chapter, I will simply expand on these questions and how they might begin to be understood using the theory proposed in the last chapter.
