ABSTRACT

One exciting area of use for sound synthesis is in augmenting, enhancing, and perhaps reinventing traditional computer/human interfaces. The WIMP (Windows, Icons, Menus, Pointer) paradigm, controlled by the computer mouse and keyboard and displayed on a display screen, has had many years of development and success. But there must be more to life than WIMP. Also, the emergence of cell phones and PDAs (personal digital assistants, palmtops, etc.) has made the display, mouse, and keyboard less important, impossible,
