ABSTRACT

CASE 1.1 A dairy cow presents with an extensive subcutaneous swelling in the stifle region of the left leg (1.1a). The swelling has gradually increased in size over the past 2 months. The swelling is fluid and the skin is under considerable pressure. No skin puncture wounds could be found. The cow is not lame and is otherwise healthy and eating well. Antibiotic therapy administered by the farmer has had no effect on the size of the mass. Ultrasound examination of the mass reveals a >25 cm diameter wellencapsulated anechoic area with multiple hyperechoic dots.
