ABSTRACT

Membrane fusion is a crucial event occurring between lipid

membranes in living organisms. However, so far very few drug

delivery systems have been identified to spontaneously fusewith the

plasmalemma of cells. The fusion process is often associated with

endocytic mechanisms. After a physical description of membrane

fusion, this chapter reviews all the natural or synthetic vectors that

fuse with membranes, spontaneously or with physical assistance.
