ABSTRACT

Mr Anup Banerjee arranged a meeting with a GP to undergo some medical tests due to chest pains that he has been experiencing for the last few months. He had arranged an appointment for Monday at four o’clock in the afternoon. By quarter to fi ve, he had been waiting for nearly an hour and no one had approached him to inform him when the doctor would be able to see him. He is angry and begins to think that he is being discriminated against due to his race. He wonders to himself, ‘Would I have to wait for so long if I was a white man named Steve?’ He sees two nurses at the end of the corridor looking at him and talking to each other in a low voice.
