ABSTRACT

In 2011, NHS Education Scotland commissioned a study to evaluate the CARE Approach. Teams in fi ve healthcare settings participated in the study and completed the CARE Approach book through peer facilitation (Heywood et al., 2012). An interesting outcome of the study was that the majority of the participants noticed an improvement in communication not just with patients but also with staff, and this infl uence on working relationships and the sharing of information was regarded as positively affecting patients’ experience of care. One of the peer facilitators reported afterwards:

Therefore, this module focuses on the importance of team learning and how the CARE Approach may enhance interactions with colleagues as well as with patients.
