ABSTRACT
Th e word ‘communication’ comes from the Latin word communicare, which means ‘to share’, and to share is defi ned as using or doing something jointly. In the context of a medical consultation, sharing involves an interactive exchange of information between the doctor and patient, including individual health beliefs, any concerns or specifi c expectations. To share, this process must involve both the patient and the doctor.
