ABSTRACT

Corticosteroids have also been studied in randomized, double-blind studies.7-10 In general, corticosteroids improved patients' well-being and increased appetite, but did not cause weight gain. The effect of corticosteroids have not been evaluated in a long term (greater than 2 months) studies. These may be useful early on as an appetite stimulant when managing anorexia or if patient has a short life expectancy. Because of the low cost, some suggest using these as first line.
