ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will describe how AFM-based force spectroscopy may be used for the targeted delivery of single molecules in biocompatible environments. Individual molecules are picked up from a depot area and pasted in well-de¡ned positions at a target surface with the help of a hierarchical force system based on speci¡c DNA interactions (Kufer et al. 2008) (Figure 10.1). The ability of arranging individual molecules at will opens a wide spectrum of potential applications ranging from investigations of molecular interactions to functional assembly of arti¡cial molecular systems.
