ABSTRACT
Achieving high uptime with physical servers can be burdensome for traditional datacenters. High availability clusters with physical servers are costly due to the additional second or even third servers that are required. More physical servers consume a larger amount of power, driving up the operational costs. Other expenses include the clustering software and licenses that are needed. VMware's High Availability (HA) solution can reduce the cost and configuration of traditional clustering solutions. Applications that cannot be clustered when operating on physical machines can benefit from VMware's HA solution when run within a virtual machine. The disaster recovery options available to datacenters using VMware ESX hosts continues to be one of the most compelling reasons to adopt virtualization.
