ABSTRACT

Hydrocarbons are organic compounds that consist only of carbon and hydrogen molecules (4). Hydrocarbon products are not pure substances but mixtures of satu rated, unsaturated, ring, and straight-chain molecules (5). The liquid forms comprise molecules containing 5 to 15 carbon atoms that are arranged in aliphatic (straightchain), alicyclic, and aromatic (benzene-based) structures with varying amounts of sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen impurities (6,7).
