ABSTRACT

Scorpions are distributed throughout the tropics, arid deserts, and semi-arid grasslands, frequently concentrat ing in areas of human habitation to take advantage of shelter, water, and prey. They display the seasonal win ter hibernation cycle of poikilotherms and the diurnal pattern of nocturnal predators. There are approximately 30 species of this genus confined to the New World. Of these, about seven are of considerable medical impor tance, and most of these species are found in Mexico (1).
