ABSTRACT
The intent of this chapter is to provide some pertinent background information about the various types of commercial, off-the-shelf generalized business application software packages available in today’s marketplace. It is by no means an exhaustive introduction. In addition, this chapter exposes the reader to some of the business purposes related for each of the software packages introduced. Understanding the business processes served by a software package and how the business process can be transformed or improved by software can represent the impetus for acquiring and implementing a software package.
