ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION Since the Saint Vincent Declaration of 1989, our mission has been to reduce the amputation rate in patients with diabetes by 50% (1). To date we have partially failed in our mission. In 2005, we had a call to action and “the diabetic Foot” was clearly identified as a priority by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) who, together with the International Working Group of the Diabetic Foot (IWGDF), published a new book: “Time to Act”: Diabetes and Foot Care, Put Feet First, Prevent Amputations.
