ABSTRACT
Cutting-edge science is a heady combination of inspired speculation, risky extrapolation, leaps of inference, and creative brainstorming. It can lead to revolutionary breakthroughs, or to failure. Scientists working on the cutting edge boldly take a fresh look at existing science and try to push beyond its boundaries. Sometimes it’s difficult to distinguish this from pseudoscience and crackpottery.
