ABSTRACT

The Kansai Electric Power Company, Inc. (KEPCO) operates eleven nuclear power reactors in Fukui prefecture, Japan, which generate approximately 40% of Japan’s total power supply. In accordance with the laws and regulations of Japan, the number of forced outages at nuclear power plants must be reported to the authorities. For KEPCO, the reported number was 0.14 outages per reactor year in the ten-year period from 1998 to 2007, which must be considered a relatively good operating record.
