ABSTRACT
The actions of lenses and mirrors in controlling beams of light are matters of everyday experience and it may be helpful to look at some systems which have similar behaviour in photon and particle optics. The simplest, shown in figure 1.1, is the plane boundary separating two regions which differ in some property. In the case of photon optics the important property is the refractive index.
