ABSTRACT

The genus Phyllanthus L. belongs to the family Phyllanthaceaea, but often it is placed within the Euphorbiaceae (Nozeran et al., 1984; Calixto et al., 1998; GRIN Database, 2011). It is the largest genus of this family and comprises well over 800 species of annuals, perennials, shrubs, climbers, and •oating aquatics, mainly from the tropical and the subtropical countries, and distributed within 11 subgenera: Botryanthus, Cicca, Conani, Emblica, Ericocus, Gomphidium, Isocladus, Kirganelia, Phyllanthodendron, Phyllanthus, and Xylophylla.
