ABSTRACT

Paspalum notatum Flüggé, bahiagrass, is a warm-season, perennial grass native to the Americas. It has become widely distributed in almost all tropical and subtropical regions of the world, particularly in the Western Hemisphere. It is the primary constituent of native grassland in southern Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay, and northeastern Argentina (Gates, Quarin, and Pedreira 2004). In the United States, bahiagrass is grown in the southeastern portion of the country, throughout Florida (Figure 4.1), and in the Coastal Plain and Gulf Coast regions (Chambliss and Adjei 2006). It has been planted extensively as a pasture grass and utility turf and for soil stabilization.
