ABSTRACT

It is a rare circumstance that one is trying to initiate a risk/uncertainty process in a virgin situation. That is, there typically are at least segments of the organization in which risk/uncertainty-related processes already are implemented, or the business or technical arenas into which the new risk/uncertainty processes need to be injected have long histories and existing processes with nearly insurmountable momentum. Simple resistance to change is not only human nature, but can be augmented by organizational considerations. Rather than weave the many organizational and technical arguments on this subject into a story — as is my wont — I determined that a direct and decidedly more curt approach to the subject would be more effective. Thus, the subheadings below.
