ABSTRACT
There are approximately 41,000 new cases of melanoma in the United States each year and approximately 7200 patients die from the disease (47). Although the vast majority of melanomas affect the skin, a large number of people are affected by melanoma involving the eye and its surrounding tissues. Ocular melanoma represents 5.3% of all cases in the United States while cutaneous melanoma accounts for 91% of cases (47).
