ABSTRACT

One display that is or will soon become common is that of the set-top box. More than half of the U.S. population subscribes to a cable television service (National Cable & Telecommunications Association). Among those users, 61% subscribe to digital cable service. Digital cable promises a better quality picture and more channels, but users must typically use a set-top box to receive these benefits. A set-top box (STB) is a device that provides the user a graphical user interface to navigate their channels using a remote control and, in some cases, control advanced services such as television recording.
