ABSTRACT

One counterpoint to understanding why older adults might have difficulty with specific technology is that the “new” version of the system or a competing brand has removed the issue-problem solved! This misses the point of research on basic perception and cognition-just because a single technology has been improved does not mean the mistakes from the first design will not occur in future technologies. Knowledge of these patterns of change will be applicable even as the specific examples of technology (and displays/user interfaces) change.
