ABSTRACT
When properly designed using current technologies, SUI applications have tremendous potential for user acceptance, especially relative to their touchtone cousins. To achieve a proper design, however, requires an understanding of SUI design disciplines, an effective SUI design team, and appropriate goals. This chapter provides an overview of the research on user acceptance of speech applications and discussion of the disciplines of SUI design, the consumers of SUI designs, and major SUI objectives.
