ABSTRACT

Most health care providers have unique sets of records management practices that allow them to collect and manage patient records in an effective manner. These practices are usually developed with little standardization considerations. As a result, the record management system is developed specifically for the health care provider. As health care providers turn to information technology solutions to streamline their operations, they face significant costs of developing, implementing, training and maintaining proprietary, technology-based solutions (Grimson et al, 2000; Fulcher, 2003, Eichelberg et al, 2005; Bossen, 2006, Hristidis et al, 2006).
