ABSTRACT

Our data show that to keep situation awareness, physicians and healthcare personnel need to integrate pieces of information may receive from different sources, at different times, and through different modalities. It seems that tools for supporting situation awareness, and decision-making are needed to enable the emergency staff to complete their work efficiently and to improve patient safety . However, computer mediated communication must be integrated with face to face

communication, and ergonomics issues have to be addressed in orgamzmg the clinical workspace. In fact, clinical workers' mental models and situation awareness arise in physical spaces, which features may support or limit cognitive and communication processes.
