ABSTRACT

Effective project management practices must be applied to control the established strategies and to ensure appropriate project oversight and management. Some project managers may view initial planning as unrealistic, and may cite that as the cause of certain impacts on the progress of the project. This makes it necessary for the project manager to be involved in the planning effort as early as possible. There is broad acceptance within the project management discipline that the project work plan and the project work breakdown structure are among the most valuable tools available to the project manager. Project management happens when the project manager ensures that work is accomplished according to the established plans. In contrast, a project management methodology is used to plan and track project performance; its purpose is to manage and achieve project success, which usually means achieving the business interests of the organization for each project.
