ABSTRACT

This chapter illustrates the systems development implementation process and the key implementation activities. An implementation process that provides for thorough preparation and detailed planning will reduce the potential for problems. This planning activity is performed to specify the actions and activities needed to accomplish system implementation. Any uncertainty associated with system implementation should be identified and examined by performing a risk assessment on the elements of the implementation plan. One key aspect of successful implementation in any project, regardless of whether the purpose is construction and implementation of a new information system or simply an alteration of any work routine, lies in the acceptance of the new system performance by users. Preparation sometimes involves introducing new hardware that may be essential to system operations. System installation begins with the introduction of the new system, subsystem, or component into the information system environment in a manner that allows user access to its features and functions.
