ABSTRACT

The impacts onto the environment caused by both combined sewer overows (CSOs) and stormwater runoff (SWR) call for control and mitigation methods. In the preceding chapters, a number of construction and operational methods and management procedures have been dealt with for reduction of the environmental impacts. In continuation of that, this chapter aims at methods that are normally considered as BMPs (best management practices) and thereby focuses on procedures that are particularly directed to the management of SWR from urban surfaces and roads. Methods for management and treatment of CSOs are in this text dealt with in Chapter 5. The BMPs dealt with in this chapter can, to some extent, also be implemented in parking areas and along roads located in combined sewer catchments and thereby reduce the wet weather ows in the network.
