Mixed Effects Models

The main problem with all the previous statistical models studied in this book assumes the parameters of the model to be fixed and not vary across subjects and scans. Even if we have repeated scans of the same subject, the fixed effect models treat the repeated scans as independent scans ignoring the dependency between scans. In this chapter, we introduce the mixed effects models that can explicitly model such dependency.
