ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: The AEOLOS (An End-of-Life of Product Systems) project has developed an integrated methodology and tool set that examine the issues relating to the sustainability of the end-of-life (EOL) treatment of waste products, and in particular, waste electrical and electronic equipment. The AEOLOS methodology enables users to systematically define EOL products and processes to a level of detail that will allow useful economic, environmental and societal costs and values of different EOL scenarios to be calculated, analysed and compared, and in so doing provide users with the means to assess and minimise the impacts of EOL scenarios. Targeted users include resource recovery and recycling companies, original equipment manufacturers (OEM), and policymakers. This paper presents a current version of the AEOLOS methodology and software, with illustration of the scope of the tool using the latest prototype version of the software.
