ABSTRACT

In the event of the signing and rati™cation of a collective bargaining agreement, contract administration is often the next step in the collective bargaining process that impacts the functions and activities of the safety professional. Safety professionals should be aware that the animosities and possible anger from the propaganda and tactics used during the organizing campaign can spill over after the collective bargaining agreement is ™nalized. Safety professionals should also be cognizant that the signi™cant changes in the workplace resulting from the employees selecting a labor organization to represent them, as well as the changes resulting from the negotiated collective bargaining agreement, may create a level of challenge from the perceived deterioration of authority within the management ranks. However, once the collective bargaining agreement is reached, it is the responsibility of the labor organization and company to develop a process to administer the framework and various provisions of the collective bargaining agreement within the operations. Contract administration, although seldom the direct responsibility of the safety professional, usually impacts the performance and structure of the safety and health function.
