ABSTRACT

GRAPH 2.22 Temperature changes that occur when a block of ice changes phases as heat energy is applied

The graph above demonstrates the concept of latent heat: ➤ Latent heat refers to the amount of heat energy absorbed (or released) by a substance

as it changes state at a specifi ed temperature. ➤ As an object (e.g. block of ice) is given heat energy, its molecules will begin to vibrate

more vigorously and the temperature of the object will increase (i.e. its kinetic energy increases).
