ABSTRACT
Chapter 7 looks at various aspects of the crystal chemistry and
crystal physics of synthetic carbonate hydroxylapatite (CHAP).
For the most part, the topics covered represent discussion and
interpretation of the single-crystal X-ray structure and infrared
spectroscopy studies reported in Chapters 5 and 6, respectively.
These two independent lines of scientific inquiry complement each
other. Individually and in combination they reveal important details
of the crystal structure of CHAP, all necessary information for a full
understanding of the inorganic fraction of bone and dental enamel.
