ABSTRACT

When an emitter is coupled to a low Q cavity, cavity damping

dominates the dynamics and the system is in the weak coupling

regime. As discussed in Section 4.4.5, in the weak coupling regime

the spontaneous emission into the cavity mode is enhanced by the

Purcell factor Eq. 4.120. To achieve Purcell factors F 1, either the mode volume must be small or the quality factor must be high.

These conditions are ideally fulfilled by the micro-and nanocavities

introduced in the previous part.
