- From Classical Electrodynamics to the Quantized Hamiltonian

In this chapter the dynamics and properties of the electromagnetic

field and charged particles are elaborated. For this, charges

and normal modes, as well as their fundamental properties are

introduced in Section 2.1, followed by a derivation of the classical

equations of motion in the framework of the Hamilton formalism in

Section 2.2. Maxwell’s equations are one important result from this

section. At the end of this chapter, in Section 2.3, the Hamiltonian

is quantized, giving the basis for a further discussion of quantum

electrodynamics phenomena.
