ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the most devastating, yet preventable, cause of premature cancer mortality and morbidity in the Western world. Smoking prevention will make the most impact on lung cancer. Nonetheless, improvements to the medical and surgical management of lung cancer have gradually helped to refine the diagnosis, staging, and optimal treatments, including multimodality therapy. Amongst the hurdles that remain are the lack of effective secondary prevention, tools for effective early diagnosis, and cost-effective new treatments aimed at molecular targets.
