ABSTRACT
The effective prevention and management of osteoporosis depend on awareness at a personal, professional and political level. Awareness needs to relate to an understanding of the impact of osteoporosis and fracture on the individual and society; who is at most risk; for whom prevention is a priority; what can be achieved in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis and fracture; and, finally, how to gain priority and resources for this.
