ABSTRACT

A paravalvular leak may be the result of valve rupture of early or late occurrence, or endocarditis, with possible low-intensity heart murmurs, that sometimes has gone unnoticed. These leaks, when large, may cause hemodynamic changes and hemolysis, especially when they result in a high-velocity flow jet. Implantation of a device for paravalvular leak closure was initially attempted by Jim Lock.1
