ABSTRACT

Angiogenesis is the growth of new blood vessels from existing ones. It is characterized by increased endothelial cell proliferation, migration, and new blood vessel formation, and it is crucial for physiologic processes, such as embryogenesis, and wound healing. It is also involved in pathologic conditions including psoriasis, endometriosis, ischemic heart disease, and rheumatoid arthritis. Much interest followed the discovery of its role in tumor biology.
