ABSTRACT

Osteoporosis has been defined as ‘a systemic skeletal disorder characterized by low bone mass and microarchitectural deterioration of bone tissue, leading to increased propensity to fractures’ |l|. A ny bone will fracture if sufficient force is applied to it, and thus risk factors for osteoporotic fracture may be divided into two groups; those that affect bone strength, such as mineral density, turnover, and geometry; and those that affect the force applied, such as falls and their associated risk factors.
